Abstract
A whole headspace injection method was devised and evaluated. In the c onventional static headspace method, only a part of headspace gas is i ntroduced into the separation column. The amount of volatile organic c ompounds in a whole headspace calculated using Henry's constants was s hown to be enough for the measurement using gas chromatography-mass sp ectrometry. Therefore, we have designed a device which allows the whol e headspace gas to be sampled from a vial, and the volatile organic co mpounds in it are brought into a micro-trap, and then into a gas chrom atographic-mass spectrometry system. Using this method, sensitive head space analysis has been achieved.
