Abstract
Ultrasonic energy is now available as a hemostatic tool to aid dissect ion during surgery, A new device, the Laparosonic Coagulating Shears ( LCS-Ethicon/Ultracision, N. Smithfield, RI), has been developed to all ow hemostatic coagulation and division of tissue. We describe the mech anism of action and its effects in the porcine model. In addition, we compare this modality with conventional electrosurgery.
