Abstract
Bryology has been a field of study at The New York Botanical Garden si nce its founding. Brief biographical sketches are provided for Elizabe th Gertrude Britton, Robert Statham Williams, and William Campbell Ste ere. The important bryological collections that have been acquired by NY are enumerated with a brief explanation of the circumstances.
