Abstract
Unsymmetrically substituted beta-diketones, RCOCH(2)COR' (R and R' = a ryl) have been synthesized and used to prepare their monothio-beta-dik etone derivatives. Because of the similar basicities of the carbonyl o xygen due to the electronic effects of the R and R' groups, a mixture of the monothio-beta-diketones, RCSCH(2)COR' and R'CSCH(2)COR, is form ed. Several of the monothio-beta-diketones have been used to prepare t heir corresponding Ni-II and Co-II complexes. Mass spectral and C-13-n .m.r. data are used to confirm the formation of isomers of the monothi o-beta-diketonate ligands and their metal complexes.
