G. Ingelman et M. Thunman, HIGH-ENERGY NEUTRINO PRODUCTION BY COSMIC-RAY INTERACTIONS IN THE SUN, Physical review. D. Particles and fields, 54(7), 1996, pp. 4385-4392
The flux of neutrinos originating from cosmic ray interactions with ma
tter in the Sun has been calculated based on Monte Carlo models for hi
gh energy particle interactions. The resulting flux at the Earth (with
in the Sun's solid angle) is higher than the corresponding one from co
smic ray interactions with Earth's atmosphere. The smallness of the ab
solute rate, however, precludes it as a practical ''standard candle''
for neutrino telescopes and limits neutrino oscillation searches. On t
he other hand, it facilitates dark matter searches based on neutrinos
from neutralino annihilation in the Sun.
