Abstract
Organometallic chemistry, starting as a branch of organic chemistry la ter incorporated coordination chemistry and has developed into a true multidisciplinary science. It is not only acting as a bridge between t he two conventional branches of chemistry-morganic and organic, but is also assuming tremendous importance from the point of view of industr ial, biological and environmental aspects. It satisfies several social needs and is a challenging science with a great potential and unlimit ed opportunities. To realise these expectations, greater emphasis has to be laid on the learning of organometallic chemistry in a comprehens ive manner at the undergraduate postgraduate as well as the research l evels.
