Abstract
Alignment tolerance is a very desirable quality for a low cost optical connector, Sensitivity to misalignment depends on a number of paramet ers such as emitter directivity, fiber core radius, fiber numerical ap erture, and emitter size. In this paper, we present a novel Fourier te chnique to calculate the amount of power coupled into a large core fib er for various parameter values and longitudinal and lateral misalignm ents. This technique can be 100 times faster on a computer compared to the brute force numerical integration method.
