Abstract
Much of manufacturing industry is undertaking or contemplating re-engi neering to survive and succeed in increasingly competitive markets. En ter prise modelling methods offer a means of understanding existing sy stems and facilitating the change process and should be seen as a rout ine part of the planning and management activity alongside other estab lished management methods. A synthesis of the established IDEF(0) meth od and an emerging IDEF(3) 'process description' method is proposed ca lled IDEF(0-3). It is presented in the context of an 'enterprise model ling framework' and can be used to extend the scope of individual IDEF models to provide a composite behavioural view of manufacturing enter prise systems.
