Proton Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) method has been used to study the
composition and possible origin of atmospheric aerosols in the mounta
in region of Poland. The fitters were collected during two periods of
one week in summer and in winter in the mountain observatory at 1985 m
a.s.l, and in Zakopane, a town situated at the foot of the mountains.
The most important contributions to the atmospheric pollution were de
termined. The comparison of the results obtained at both locations all
owed the separation of aerosols into two groups: those due to the loca
l and to the long range pollution.
