Abstract
This paper introduces global positioning system (GPS) technology to no nspecialist geographers and recommends a framework for implementing GP S instructional modules in college geography courses. The GPS system w as developed as a worldwide satellite-based system by the U.S. Departm ent of Defense (DoD) to simplify and improve military and civilian nav igation and positioning. By presenting GPS in several courses, the app roach outlined can expose large numbers of students to GPS and may hel p to demonstrate the utility of GPS for several geographic subdiscipli nes.
