Abstract
Staging by means of preoperative clinical screening will always stage melanoma study patients too favourably. Only a postoperative histopath ological staging by means of lymphadenectomy will allow a correct stag e-correlated patient prognosis. Lymphadenectomy does not prolonge over all survival (95% confident intervals +/- 6.6% to +/- 25%) however pro longs recurrence free survival.
