Abstract
Acylated polyhydroxyolean-12-ene triterpene oligoglycosides, camellias aponins A(1), A(2), B-1, B-2, C-1, and C-2, were isolated from the see ds of Camellia japonica L. The structures of six camelliasaponins were elucidated on the basis of chemical and physicochemical evidence. Cam elliasaponins B-1, B-2, C-1, and C-2 were found to exhibit inhibitory activity on ethanol absorption. By comparison of the inhibitory activi ties for camelliasaponins with those for desacyl-camelliasaponins, acy l groups such as the angeloyl or tigloyl group were found to be essent ial to exerting the activity.
