ACYLATED POLYHYDROXYOLEAN-12-ENE TRITERPENE OLIGOGLYCOSIDES, CAMELLIASAPONINS A(1), A(2), B-1, B-2, C-1, AND C-2, FROM THE SEEDS OF CAMELLIA-JAPONICA L - STRUCTURES AND INHIBITORY ACTIVITY ON ALCOHOL ABSORPTION, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 44(10), 1996, pp. 1899-1907
Acylated polyhydroxyolean-12-ene triterpene oligoglycosides, camellias
aponins A(1), A(2), B-1, B-2, C-1, and C-2, were isolated from the see
ds of Camellia japonica L. The structures of six camelliasaponins were
elucidated on the basis of chemical and physicochemical evidence. Cam
elliasaponins B-1, B-2, C-1, and C-2 were found to exhibit inhibitory
activity on ethanol absorption. By comparison of the inhibitory activi
ties for camelliasaponins with those for desacyl-camelliasaponins, acy
l groups such as the angeloyl or tigloyl group were found to be essent
ial to exerting the activity.
