H. Derouet et al., EXPERIENCE WITH A PAPAVERINE PHENTOLAMINE /PROSTAGLANDIN E1-MIXTURE IN NONRESPONDERS TO AUTOINJECTION THERAPY/, Aktuelle Urologie, 27(5), 1996, pp. 271-274
In 75 patients with erectile dysfunction and insufficient treatment by
papaverine/phentolamine and prostaglandin E1(PGE1), a papaverine/phen
tolamine/PGE1 mixture was tested. 43/75 (57%) of the patients obtained
erections sufficient for sexual intercourse. 22/43 (39.5%) began an a
utoinjection program. In a clinical control after 12 months, 9/22 (41%
) had dropped out (2/17 spontaneous remissions, 1 cavernous fibrosis w
ith extreme penile deviation). 13 patients carried out the therapy wit
hout complications, but in 5 cases additional use of external erection
al aids (vaccuum pump, erection ring) was necessary, Papaverine/phento
lamine/PGE1 mixture is a successful additional diagnostic and therapeu
tic tool in the treatment of erectile dysfunction for a smaller group
of the patients.
