Crystalline triselenide compound, 4,7-dimethoxybenzotriselenole, was p
repared and characterized by single-crystal X-ray analysis; in the uni
t cell the two molecules stack each other with distorted triselenide r
ings sticking out from the benzene column. Interconversion accompanyin
g one-electron transfer steps between the triselenole and the correspo
nding triselenolium radical cation salt has been constructed by chemic
al and electrochemical treatments.
