A. Ungeheuer et al., TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS IN LAPAROSCOPIC INTERVENTIONS, Langenbecks Archiv fur Chirurgie, 1996, pp. 628-630
Recent developments in robot technology and communication media have o
pened the way for their use in various medical techniques. Automated c
amera guidance as well as new telecommunication systems make it possib
le to carry out extensive laparoscopic operations precisely and to pro
vide teaching assistance from great distances (so-called telepreceptor
ship). Long-term cost reduction, reduction of surgical complications a
nd the improvement of quality standards are some of the benefits which
could be realized by use of such systems.
