Analysis of multi - component samples by using two columns can provide
more information than that of single column does. However, methodolog
y of making full use of the information for peak identification is rem
ained to be developed. This paper presents a peak identification metho
d based on fuzzy set theory in combination with strategy of intelligen
ce. Membership functions are defined to describe similarity of eluting
peaks to the target components. Peak elution times and elution order
on columns with different selectivity are used as primary data, relati
ve concentrations of solutes are used for confirmation of the identifi
ed peaks. Some halohydrocarbons specified as toxic compounds in air ar
e analyzed as verification of the method.
