From 1983 to 1994 170 carcinomas were operated with the TEM technique
at three clinics (Mainz, Cologne, Tubingen). The final histological st
aging of the patients with carcinomas was low-risk pT1 in 102 cases, h
igh-risk pT1 in eight cases, low-risk pT2 in 39 cases, high-risk pT2 i
n three cases, low-risk pT3 in 13 cases and in five cases high-risk pT
3. Of 102 patients with pT1 low-risk carcinomas 22 underwent further r
e section, nine of the 42 pT2 and eight of the 18 pT3 tumors. Four of
the 80 patients with pT1 low-risk carcinomas only treated locally have
had a recurrence. The 5-year survival rate of pT1 low-risk carcinomas
was 84.5% and the age-corrected survival rate 100%. pT2 low-risk carc
inomas had a 5-year survival rate of 73.9% and a corrected rate of 100
%. The adjusted survival rate of pT1 low-risk carcinomas was 96.7% and
90.9% in pT2 low-risk carcinomas. The 5-year tumor free survival rate
in pT1 low risk was 82.0% and in pT2 low-risk carcinomas 67.3%.
