The chemistry and transport of ozone in the planetary boundary layer h
ave been investigated within the frame of the field experiment ''Schau
insland '95''. For the first time lidar and sodar remote sensing have
been used in combination with tracer dispersion experiments. The main
purpose of this work is to present time series of vertical profiles of
ozone concentrations measured under well-chosen meteorological and to
pographical conditions. The combination of the applied methods allows
the interpretation of the ozone values in terms of standard atmospheri
c stratification. The results on the distribution and vertical extent
of the ozone concentration specify the photochemically active reaction
volume in the atmosphere and constitute an important source of inform
ation for the modeling of atmospheric chemistry. The impact of atmosph
eric transport on ozone pollution in suburban and rural locations with
complex topography is briefly discussed.
