We provide an improved method for measuring the first order hyperpolar
izability of organic nonlinear optical materials in solution by the hy
per-Rayleigh scattering technique. The method is free from the overest
imation which is encountered in the conventional method due to the flu
orescence induced by two-photon absorption.
