Abstract
The Stark components of the lower-lying manifolds of Nd3+ in Ba0.25Mg2 .75Y2Ge3O12 have been characterized using the well-resolved emission s pectra for the F-4(3/2)-->I-4(9/2) and F-4(3/2)-->I-4(11/2) transition s at 300 K. The emission cross sections of these intermanifold transit ions as well as the inter-Stark transitions of R(1)-->X(5) at 940.4 nm and of R(2)-->Y-3 at 1061.8 nm have been determined. Finally, these r esults are compared with those of the standard laser host, Nd:YAG, and the potential of Nd:BAMGAR as a laser host is discussed. (C) 1996 Ame rican Institute of Physics.
