Abstract
The transformation from crystalline alpha-quartz to silica glass under shock pressure is followed, in the intermediate phase where both crys talline and amorphous SiO2 are detected, by Raman microspectrometry. E xperiments are carried out on samples recovered from increasing peak p ressure. The evolution of the crystalline phase is compared to the evo lution of alpha-quartz with a thermal annealing. No observation is mad e for a beta-phase transformation before full amorphization of the mat erial.
