Peculiarities of nonequilibrium solidification of Fe82PT12B6 alloy are
considered together with their influence on the formation of a column
ar structure in the ingots. It is difficult to form a columnar structu
re in the ingots generally because of concurrent peritectic reactions
in the alloys, accompanied by the precipitation of primary iron dendri
tes. the latter interfacing with the directional growth of the columna
r crystals. Increasing the cooling rate helps to eliminate those proce
sses and, therefore, to achieve stronger supercooling effects of the m
elt before its solidification.
