Abstract
Time-resolved spectra and location of electron plasma waves (EPW) prod uced by stimulated Raman scattering in back and in side directions hav e been measured using Thomson scattering of a short wavelength probe b eam. Significant Raman sidescattering was observed for angles as large as 40 degrees from the laser axis. The Raman growth is larger and sta rts earlier in the front part of the density profile than at the summi t. Simultaneous measurements at multiple places in the plasma provided an indication of the coherence length of the EPW.
