The structure of (C4H9NH3)(2)SnCl6 is orthorhombic, M(m) = 479.68, Pnm
a, a = 12.242(3)Angstrom, b = 7.329(3)Angstrom, c = 21.527(4)Angstrom,
Z = 4, V = 1931.4(11)Angstrom(3), D = 1650 mg/m(3), lambda = 0.71069
Angstrom, T = 293(2) K, R = 0.044 for 1900 reflections with I > 2 sigm
a(I). The structure is characterized by ionic layers sandwiched betwee
n layers of paraffinic chains. A structural phase transition is detect
ed by means of differential scanning calorimetry. The basic thermodyna
mic data are determined for this transition. The Raman and infrared sp
ectra at room temperature are recorded and some frequencies are assign
ed.
