Abstract
The effect of Mn on structure and magnetic properties of Nd2Fe17-xMnx compounds has been studied. Substitution of Mn for Fe does not change the structure of Nd2Fe17 and all the investigated Nd2Fe17-xMnx compoun ds (x = 0 to 8) crystallize in Th2Zn17 structure. Upon substitution of Mn, the lattice constants decrease after a small initial increase. an d then increase again. Substitution of Mn for Fe causes a monotonous d ecrease of the Curie temperature. The saturation magnetization of Nd2F e17-xMnx compounds decreases dramatically with increasing Mn content. The moments of the Mn atoms in these compounds are also discussed.
