Abstract
The results of the first steps of a study on GaAs prototypes of radiat ion resistant position sensitive detectors using charged particle beam s are presented, We describe the structural design of two detector pro totypes with pitches of 150 mu m and 50 mu m and their main characteri stics. The results of the radiation tests show that the prototypes ope rate well in fluxes of protons and neutrons up to 2 x 10(14) p/cm(2) a nd 1 x 10(15) n/cm(2) and for a gamma-ray absorbed dose up to 100 kGy in CH-equivalent. The response of the detectors to charged particles a nd the detection efficiency have been measured.
