SYNTHESIS AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES OF PYRIMIDOCINNOLINEDITHIONES,THEIR BIS(ALKYLTHIO) DERIVATIVES AND 4-AMINO-2-METHYLTHIOPYRIMIDOCINNOLINES

Synthesis of the hitherto unreported 2,4-dimercaptopyrimido[5,4-c]cinn onlines 5 has been described. Treatment of 5 with alkyl halides under basic condition yields the 2,4-bis(alkylthio)pyrimido[5,4-c]cinnolines 6. The 2,4-bis-(methylthio)pyrimidocinnolines 6a-d react with ammonia in dimethylformamide under pressure to give the 4-amino-2-methylthiop yrimido[5,4-c]cinnolines 7a-d. All the compounds have been characteris ed by elemental analyses and spectral data. A number of compounds show promising antimicrobial activity.
