A new digital algorithm called the Conditional Polynomial Filter (CPF)
is presented to solve the problem of the separation of radiation puls
es from electronic noise of the same level. A PC-based simulation of a
practical very low signal-to-noise measurement case is presented, whi
ch proves the interest of this new algorithm vs. the classical analog
signal processing done by a shaper: on the CPF signal the vanishing of
the gaussian noise which is present on the shaper signal was observed
. The simulation results were followed by successful real experiments.
This validation process demonstrates also the interest of a PC simula
tion for the early phases of a new measurement algorithm development.
