High photosensitive CdS:ZnCdS structure was formed by screen printing
and high temperature sintering of CdS and ZnCl2 powders. The sintering
of the film at high temperatures resulted in the formation of ZnCdS n
anoparticles in a CdS matrix by an ion interchange reaction followed b
y a solid state reaction. The photosensitivity of the structure depend
s on parameters like initial film composition (ZnCl2 to CdS ratio), si
ntering temperature and sintering time. The influence of these paramet
ers on the dark and photocurrent characteristics of CdS:ZnCdS structur
e is explained by taking into consideration the presence of deep accep
tor centers related to Cd and Zn vacancies, shallow donor levels due t
o S vacancies in the films and recrystallization of ZnCdS nano particl
es.
