Abstract
A two year preliminary survey was carried out in order to assess the e xtent of contamination of the Nitra river by organic pollutants. The m onitoring included different hyphenated techniques and various toxicol ogical and hydrobiological measurements. Target analyses of selected g roups of priority pollutants were carried out as well. This strategy e nabled a comprehensive view of the occurrence of relevant organic cont aminants in the river basin.
