Three types of sensillas, namely trichoid (T-1-T-4), basiconic (B-1-B-
2) and chaetic ones, have been found in imago. The sensory apparatus i
n larvae is similar to that of imago, but at the first larval stages i
t is located only on the distal segment. T-2 and T-3 sensillas are not
differentiated, being differed in size; B-1 sensillas appear only in
larvae of the third age. The receptory apparatus of the Podizus labium
consists of trichoid and basiconic sensillas and long chaetas. Possib
le functions of some sensillas have been discussed. An unusual structu
re-''funnel-like tongue'' with elongated coral-like edges has been fou
nd on the labium apex. It supposedly improves the contact with food.
