Abstract
A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay was developed for the identifi cation of the three species of Arcobacter which have been recovered fr om clinically ill or healthy humans and/or livestock, namely Arcobacte r butzleri, Arcobacter skirrowii and Arcobacter cryaerophilus. The ass ay utilizes primers targeted to the genes encoding 16S rRNA of Arcobac ter spp. The assay reduces the amount of time required to positively i dentify strains of Arcobacter.
