E. Rustrian et al., EFFECT OF THE VOLATILE FATTY-ACIDS ON PHOSPHATE-UPTAKE PARAMETERS BY PURE CULTURES OF ACINETOBACTER SP, Letters in applied microbiology, 23(4), 1996, pp. 245-248
Experiments were performed to examine the effect of volatile fatty aci
ds (VFA) as carbon source, on the phosphate uptake parameters in four
Acinetobacter strains. Acetic and butyric acids were equally good carb
on sources for phosphate removal, while propionic acid was the least e
fficient substrate. The best ratios of assimilated phosphate vs VFA co
nsumed were 0.178 with acetic acid by Ac. calcoaceticus NRRL 4270, 0.2
1 with propionic acid by Ac. calcoaceticus NRRL 4270 and 0.187 with bu
tyric acid by Acinetobacter sp. SUCT 5.
