U. Kelle et C. Ludemann, ARE THEORY-RICH BRIDGE ASSUMPTIONS WORTHW HILE - A REPLY TO LINDENBERG,SIEGWART, Kolner Zeitschrift fur Soziologie und Sozialpsychologie, 48(3), 1996, pp. 542
This paper is a comment on an article by Lindenberg referring to our p
aper on bridge assumptions. In this comment we underline that we do no
t propose inductive inferences or claim for a naive empiristic positio
n. We criticize Lindenberg for an inadequate extending of the notion '
'theory'' and demonstrate that his theory of social productions functi
ons does not satisfy Lindenberg's own crucial requirement for his theo
ry i.e. predicting how people substitute between different instrumenta
l goals in a situation.
