The symposium titled ''Quality Outcomes in an Age of Uncertainty'' was
held in April at. the spring ASCP/CAP meeting in Boston. Participants
discussed trends in health care and today's focus on clinical outcome
s. Laboratorians may play a key role in improving patient outcomes and
quality of care through the development of clinical guidelines and cr
itical pathways, appropriate use of tests, and by getting out of their
offices and laboratories to make recommendations to caregivers. The s
ymposium was sponsored by the ASCP Practice Assessment Committee. Foll
owing are excerpts of participants' remarks.
