Abstract
The effect of strain on valence band spectra in both bulk and in pseud omorphic GaN quantum wells is studied theoretically using recent exper imental results for deformation potential constants. Wave functions an d dispersion curves for A-, B- and C-hole subbands are obtained from l inear combination of bulk analytical solutions for the 3X3 wurtzite bl ock-Hamiltonian. A detailed analysis is presented for the dependence o f hole spectrum on quantum well width, depth, and strain due to lattic e mismatch. (C) 1996 American Institute of Physics.
