CdTe detectors exhibiting a resolution comparable to that of the early
germanium detectors have been developed. With moderate cooling system
using a miniature Peltier cooling, device resolution of 1 keV for the
122 keV gamma-line of Co-57 and 2.5 keV for the 662 keV gamma-line of
Cs-137 has been reliably obtained. CdZnTe with high performance was i
nvestigated in the same way for manufacturing of high performance P-I-
N detectors. This breakthrough in performance opens the way for many m
easurement applications where high resolution is required but liquid n
itrogen cooling is not desirable. Devices for RFA and gamma-ray spectr
ometric analysis of different objects, based upon the detectors, have
been already created.
