Temperature distribution during a fatigue process was examined under c
yclic deflection in the non-linear region. The cyclic deflection cause
d a remarkable and local rise in temperature by the heating due to vis
cosity of air-dried wood. The appearance of the peak in temperature ve
rsus the logarithmic cyclic number was explained on the basis of visco
sity change due to moisture movement and vaporization by heating durin
g the fatigue process. The change of the temperature distribution was
related to the heat transfer and the heat capacity of wood.
