The paper deals with the design of microprocessor protection systems a
nd a relay protection information provision service in relation to a c
lock synchronization problem. A simultaneity criterion of microprocess
or differential current line relay protection readings and simultaneit
y criteria when using a wave principle for detecting the distance to a
fault location are considered. Methods are proposed for controller ti
mer synchronization in relation to the introduction of a general time
service for data logging networks. An algorithm for the synchronizatio
n of two initiative stations used in a differential protection system
