Abstract
Single-wire or wireless charging circuits for capacitive energy storag es are associated with Tesla type circuits. These circuits are shown t o be equivalent to the Latour doubling circuit. Partial capacitances b etween the wires, determined by taking account of the influence of the earth, take the role of current-limiting capacitors. The voltage of c apacitance charging does not double its value only because of the leak age resistance of the capacitor. Formulae giving the optimum values of all parameters of such circuits have been obtained. It is profitable to apply Tesla circuits at generator frequencies of 20-100 kHz for var ious applications. In these cases it is necessary to charge the capaci tors to high voltages (50 kV or more) with a low frequency of the char ge-discharge cycle. The weight and cost of high-voltage current limite rs (partial capacitances) are zero. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Scienc e Ltd.
