This article reviews the primarily behaviorally based sleep disorders
experienced by children and adolescents and summarizes the most common
ly utilized treatments for these problems. The sleep disorders covered
are classified into three general categories. The first category is p
roblems related to difficulties sleeping. The second includes excessiv
e daytime sleepiness or hypersomnolence. The final category consists o
f the parsomnias or abnormal behaviors associated with sleep, such as
night terrors, sleepwalking, bruxism, and enuresis.
