A series of N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one and -thion
e carbamic esters have been synthesised and tested against Mycobacteri
um avium strains. The MIC values determined by the radiometric broth d
ilution method were between 2 and 8 mu g/mL for the benzisothiazolthio
ne derivatives and between 16 and 32 mu g/mL or higher for the corresp
onding benzisothiazolone derivatives.
