The influence of high energy photon emission on angular distributions
of electrons moving close to the atomic strings in single crystals has
been studied. It has been shown that radiation makes the angular dist
ribution broarder as compared with the case when no photon emission oc
curs. This is due to the increase in the critical angle for channeling
and due to the enhancement of the role played by multiple scattering
as the beam energy decreases, New experimental results have been analy
sed. The self-focusing effect due to the radiation cooling is discusse
d in detail.
