Abstract
The effect of large electric fields on the photoconductivity spectra o f liquid xenon is reported. The photoconductivity threshold shifts to lower photon energies with increasing applied electric field. From its magnitude and functional dependence, it is concluded that the shift i s due to the field ionization of high-n Wannier excitons.
