B. Melchiorri et al., LIMITATIONS TO THE ACCURACY OF COSMIC BACKGROUND-RADIATION ANISOTROPYMEASUREMENTS - ATMOSPHERIC FLUCTUATIONS, The Astrophysical journal, 471(1), 1996, pp. 52-63
We discuss the ultimate limits posed by atmospheric fluctuations to ob
servations of cosmic background anisotropies (CBAs) in ground-based an
d balloon-borne experiments both in the radio and millimetric regions.
We present correlation techniques useful in separating CBAs from atmo
spheric fluctuations. An experimental procedure is discussed for testi
ng a site in view of possible CBA observations. Four sites with altitu
des ranging from 0 up to 3.5 km have been tested.
