K. Kang et al., A STUDY OF THE OIL-LUBRICATED HERRINGBONE-GROOVED JOURNAL BEARING .1.NUMERICAL-ANALYSIS, Journal of tribology, 118(4), 1996, pp. 906-911
A numerical study of the oil-lubricated herringbone-grooved journal be
aring is presented for the case of eight circular-profile grooves on t
he sleeve surface. The governing differential equation derived from th
e mass balance is solved by using the finite difference method. Some o
f the groove geometries are constrained because of the groove forming
processes. Optimal values for various bearing parameters are obtained
to maximize the radial force and to improve the stability characterist
ics. Results are compared with the plain and rectangular-profile groov
ed journal bearings. Radial force, attitude angle, stiffness and dampi
ng coefficients, and stability map are given for optimal configuration
s.
