Spin-polarized band structures of Fe-n/Cr-m superlattices have been co
mputed for both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic configurations of
the iron layers by using both the layered KKR and augmented spherical
wave formalisms. Along the growth direction the band structure and den
sity of states display features which are identified as quantum well-l
ike states. We discuss the role these confined states play in the inte
rlayer coupling and transport properties of metallic superlattices.
