Abstract
Experimental and simulation results on ridge waveguide DFB lasers with tilted stripes with respect to the gratings is presented in this lett er. It is shown that in addition to the lasing wavelength, the couplin g efficiency (kappa) is also a strong function of tilt angle. This res ults in a higher threshold current and a smaller stop-band width, and limits the maximum wavelength tuning range that can be achieved using this scheme.
