Abstract
Polarization effects in coherent optical frequency domain reflectometr y were evaluated. The use of a polarization average procedure complete ly eliminated these effects, giving rise to a measurement accuracy of 0.27 dB for an arbitrary polarization vector of the detected signal, w ithout making use of polarization diversity receivers, which are not s uitable to this case.
