Abstract
Diels-Alder adduct 2 of 6,6-dimethylfulvene and methyl acrylate can be readily cyclopentannulated via Pauson-Khand reaction to furnish the e xo-tricyclic compounds 3 and 4. Both 3 and 4, on exposure to BF3-ether ate in benzene, undergo novel transannular cyclization to give 2,8-eth anonoradamantane derivatives 5 and 6, respectively in excellent yield.
